About the Breed

AKC CONFORMATION SHOWING

How well does your Cavalier measure up to the breed standard? Conformation showing is one way for exhibitors and breeders alike to measure how they stack up against other Cavaliers. Structure, movement and temperament are the essence of conformation shows.  Dogs may not be spayed or altered in any way to enter.

Point Schedule for Division 4 - Effective May 13, 2020 for FL, GA and SC.

1 point    2 points    3 points     4 points   5   points

 D    B      D    B         D     B         D     B      D     B

 2     2      6     7         10   11        12   14     16   19

Canine Obedience training is the basic foundation upon which all other related activities are built, including Agility, tracking, search-and-rescue, fieldwork, Rally, even showing for Conformation.  A dog that understands and is comfortable responding to a basic set of commands can build on these skills to go into any direction its owner cares to pursue.

DOG SHOWING BASICS

Cavaliers can be shown in Agility, Conformation, Obedience, Therapy and Rally events.  The AKC Official Rules and Regulations for Dog Shows should accompany you to every dog showing event.  It provides a complete listing of the rules that concern the dog show exhibitor and is available from the AKC and at any dog show.

Also, sign up on the mailing lists of the AKC show superintendents in your area so you will be sent the premium lists for dog shows in your general area.  You cannot just show up at a dog show and expect to exhibit your Cavalier.  A considerable amount of preparation is involved from the show organizers after the entries are received.  This is why entries for regular AKC dog shows close approximately two and a half weeks before the show.

The premium list will tell you the exact closing date, show location, whether it will be held indoors or outdoors, who the judges will be, any special classes or class divisions, any special rules, and what (if any) prizes are offered.  All entries CLOSE at NOON on Wednesdays, no exceptions.
